Travel Requirements:

We will be riding together as friends and family.  Safety is of utmost importance and unsafe behavior will not be tolerated at any time.

Behavior: Every rider must understand that our behavior on and off the bus is to be God-honoring and God-glorifying.  Responsible adults who have agreed to help will be present on the bus, however, everyone will be expected to be responsible for his/her own behavior.

Shoes or sandals with a solid rubber sole must be worn on travel days.  This is both a safety item for public rest areas, as well as a requirement of restaurants we will eat in along the way.

Health & Liability Waiver for the trip will be required (in addition to the Q2018 waiver).  The Travel Waiver and submission information are located on this pageTravelers will not be allowed to board the bus without a waiver signed by self (or the parent(s) or legal guardian of the traveler if a minor).

Adult Traveler Responsibilities:

Adults traveling on the Bus2Q are expected to act as chaperones and assist with guiding students as and when needed.   This includes: ensuring that every student has a responsible adult within sight at rest areas, meal stops, and overnights.  Some adults have been asked to be responsible for additional specific tasks such as helping to coordinate sleeping areas, leading worship, serving continental breakfast, overseeing curfew and wake-up times and so on.

Pickup & Drop-Off Points:

We will have two pickup points along the way for those joining us.  See below for the approximate schedule.  Please note: we CANNOT wait at pickup locations, so please plan to be there at least an hour early in the event the bus is ahead of schedule:

Cost & Meals:

Bus Rental: $55 cost per person.  To pay online, click here.
As a family & friends group, we’re splitting the cost of the bus rental.  The low cost is due to generous donations covering more than half of the rental cost!!

Money for Meals: Each traveler should plan on bringing enough money to cover meals, and pre-pay for group meals. See the Group Meals Pre-Pay Page below for more details.

Approximate meals on the trip:

No-Cost Breakfast: Eastern Field will be providing light breakfast food items for us each morning.

Lunches: Most lunches will be fast food, although we will be stopping at Plyler’s Family Buffet Restaurant on the return trip for a group meal (see the  Group Meals Pre-Pay Page for all meal details.

Dinners: Our goal is to stop at least once per day (Lunch or Dinner) at a sit-down restaurant for a hot, healthy meal.  Typical stops are at restaurants like Golden Corral, Cracker Barrel, Asian Buffet, Family Buffet, etc.

Bus/Group Meal Discount:  Where possible we will pay for the group as a whole, in advance, to save time and cost.  A meals pre-payments page will be used so you can pay for those meals by card, paypal, or by check ahead of time, and we will all get a better rate, and skip the cashier line. For example, Golden Corral normally runs about $19 with meal, drink, tip and tax. Our group rate last year was $13.59 if paid together. As soon as our overnight locations are secured, we will begin working on meal stop locations and will post information about pre-paying group meals.

The food locations listed are for approximate cost information only. Flexibility is necessary with a group our size.

Snacks/Drinks:
Optional if you want them: Bring a few snacks and a water bottle.  Plan on bringing any food in your carry-on bag. Note that only water is allowed on the bus we are renting.

Overnight Stays:

The church stays on the trip itinerary are no cost.  If you desire to stay in a local hotel, you will need to secure your own transportation to or from the church to the hotel.

OPTIONAL: If you desire to stay in a hotel the night before departure or after return, some teams are staying at hotels in the Selinsgrove area such as Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn in Selinsgrove.

Packing Requirements:
Our space will be limited!

With all seats filled, space and weight will be in limited supply on this trip. For that reason, please be aware of the following luggage allowances.

Each person may bring:

  • 1 Carry-On bag: “Briefcase Size” or small backpack is what our bus overhead or under seat storage can accommodate.
  • Carry-On Pillow(s) and Sleeping Bag (or linens/blanket) for church overnight stays.
  • 1 Bedroll or air mattress (see notes below!)
  • 1 24″ to 26″ suitcase or duffel bag (24″ is medium and 26″ is a medium-large size).  Large suitcases are permitted if you pack your air mattress inside.  See notes below on how to reduce space.
  • Water bottle and a snack, or two, if desired.

Quizzers will get 2 Shirts: All quizzers will receive 2 shirts at Q and will be expected to wear them. That will reduce the number of shirts you need to pack.

Plan to do Laundry:
MNU has coin operated laundry facilities.  Take fewer changes of clothes than you need to save space and plan to do laundry at MNU.  Bring quarters and a zip-loc baggie of detergent to do laundry mid-week.

Plan to Share Toiletries:
If you are sharing a room with someone on the trip, decide ahead of time who will bring toiletry items that can be shared.

Stowing Luggage:
Overnight Bags/suitcases will be stowed underneath before departure.  Use the smallest usable suitcase for the trip.

Due to space and time constraints we will be unable to open luggage bays (once your luggage is stowed) until we arrive at our destination for each overnight stay.

Sleeping Bag:
Bring a sleeping bag or linens for the overnight church stays, even if you ordered the optional linen service at Q. What you bring is what you will be sleeping on in the churches overnight.

Bed Rolls and Air Mattresses:
Bring a sleeping bag and, if desired, a bed-roll like a Thermarest or Trail Lite.  If you bring an air mattress, a simple twin size mattress is much smaller/easier to handle than larger ones (or “deluxe” thick models).  Using a double or queen size when two are sharing is encouraged, however, males and females will be sleeping in separate areas so plan accordingly if you are married and traveling on this trip.

Route:

Our trip route has been chosen based on safety, mileage, possible pickup points, and available churches for overnight stays.   This year the route will be I-80 through PA with a stop in Brookville PA.  Here is a Google Maps view of the route (click to open in Google Maps).

Rest Stops:

Bus Travel time is approximately 9-10 hours each full day, plus rest/meal stops. We typically drive about 2 hours before a rest area break in the morning, at Lunch, a rest area break in the afternoon, and at Dinner before arrival at the church where we will stay for the night.

Morning/Afternoon Rest Stops: Rest stops will be at interstate rest areas or truck stops. There is a chemical toilet with hand sanitizer on the bus that may be used en route, but only for emergencies.  We will not have the bus sewer serviced in KS so emergencies-only helps to keep the smell to a minimum.
